Q:Ha, you look like the Western stereotypical portrayal of Jesus. However, that portrayal is highly inaccurate. Do you get that a lot though?
I just got a few questions about the way I look/why I look like this, so here are the two main questions:
Q: Do you get that a lot though?
Yes, I do. I live in the Bible belt and I substitute teach at the local high school. I get called Jesus to my face, whispered behind my back and I’ve even had people take pictures of me and upload them to their Facebook saying “Jesus was my sub.” (Some of the high school students in the youth group I teach have told me some stories). But now I don’t like going out to a lot of public places during usual business hours because of the attention. In fact, it has made me even more introverted than I was before. I have a minor case of Agoraphobia (literally “marketplace phobia”) because of all the double-takes, whispers and sometimes laughs directed towards/about the way I look.
Q: So, why do you look the way you look (supposedly like Jesus) in the context (Bible Belt) you live in if it bothers you?
Well, I have done an Easter play and have portrayed Jesus for various purposes. I also have other reasons as to why I look the way I do, but I don’t feel comfortable saying it in a public forum. If you want to know privately, feel free to ask on an account.
